Huffington Post: Chuck Fleischmann Made Financial Contribution To Obama's Inauguration

Posted: 03 Jul 2013 09:09 AM PDT

Rep. Chuck Fleischmann (R-Tenn.) and his wife donated a combined $605 to President Barack Obama's inaugural committee in January, making Fleischmann the only congressman from Tennessee from either party to contribute at least $200 to the president's inauguration, according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

Fleischmann donated $300, and his wife, Brenda, contributed $305. The donations, according to a Fleischmann aide, were made "in the spirit of democracy," and covered the cost of tickets to a "bipartisan" inaugural event.

The donations may come as a surprise, as Fleischmann has actively opposed Obama's positions in the past. In 2012, the representative wrote a blog post calling the remarks the president made during a speech in Roanoke, Va., on small business, an "arrogant attack." In April, Fleischmann criticized Obama's overdue "dud of a budget" on his congressional blog.

Huffington Post: Emma Watson Made A Tumblr To Get Into Character For 'The Bling Ring'

Posted: 03 Jul 2013 09:11 AM PDT

Emma Watson might be a huge movie star, but she's not your typical Hollywood starlet -- and she has nothing in common with the materialistic and fame-obsessed teens who inspired the characters in her movie "The Bling Ring."

So to get into character, (which was based on real-life Bling Ring member Alexis Neiers) Watson tried her hand at method acting and created a horrifying Tumblr for her character, reports Styleite.

Called "NickiMooreForever," the 16-post Tumblr was created in March 2012, and it does a great job of showing Watson's contempt for Neiers. She opted for a brilliantly tack zebra-print background, penned ramblings that close with the word "Namaste" and even authored fawning posts about Lindsay Lohan, Angelina Jolie and Audrina Patridge. We could have sworn Neiers wrote it herself if we didn't know better.

Huffington Post: Disgraced Former Groupon CEO Andrew Mason Offers Career Tips In The Form Of Song

Posted: 02 Jul 2013 10:03 AM PDT

Former Groupon CEO Andrew Mason's long-awaited debut album of "motivational business music" has arrived. Upon listening to the record, available on Spotify and iTunes on Tuesday, one thing stuck us: the disgraced centimillionaire seems to offer a lot of career advice for a guy who was kicked out of the company he founded for failing to turn it around.

Granted, Mason left Groupon as a man worth $200 million, so it's hard to call him unsuccessful. But these lyrics are overwhelmingly simple and pretty ridiculous. The album is full of business advice, and much of it is either odd or obvious. Mason is being compared to Raffi, and it's easy to see why.

But what do we know? Steve Jobs said he entered "one of the most creative periods of my life" after being kicked out of Apple in 1985. The following year he founded NeXT Computer, purchased by Apple a decade later, and bought the studio that would become Pixar.

Huffington Post: DOMA Ruling Helps Undocumented Immigrants As Immigration Benefits Are Extended To Same-Sex Couples

Posted: 02 Jul 2013 10:08 AM PDT

Javier Hernandez celebrated the Supreme Court's decision to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act for the same reason many others did, but he also hopes that victory clears the way for another progressive issue that's personal for him.

Hernandez, a 24-year-old Chaffey College student from Pomona, is gay, and he's been campaigning for an end to restrictions on same-sex marriage since Proposition 8 -- defining marriage as between a man and a woman, approved by state voters in 2008 and effectively invalided by the court last week -- was first proposed.

But he also has a long political and personal connection to the immigration reform like the bill the Senate passed last week. One controversy impeding that bill had been whether to extend immigration benefits to same-sex couples, many Democrats saying the two cultural land mines should be debated separately.

Huffington Post: Jenni Rivera Piñatas Cause Outrage Among Singer's Family

Posted: 01 Jul 2013 10:30 AM PDT

The Jenni Rivera piñatas have caused anger among the singer's family and outrage the fans. The candy filled party favor sport Jenni's style of loose locks, short skirts and heels.

According to the Latin Times, Roberto Martínez, the piñata maker who lives in California, said in an interview with TV show "El Gordo y la Flaca" that ever since he started making them he's received many requests from fans, who are willing to pay from $200 to $300 for a piñata. "It all started when fans started requesting something to remember her, and someone came up with the idea of a Jenni Rivera piñata," said the creator of this controversial party amusement.

He added that everything he does is with respect and that it's an art. "This piñata is harder to make because you have to mold it. I see it as a way of respecting and honoring her memory because she just died, and I'm aware that we use piñatas to beat them with sticks and break them, but I see it differently. It's an art. It can be seen as a statue that you can have in your bedroom or a memory of her," he said.

Huffington Post: Dori Rhoades Accidentally Gives Away $18,000 Diamond Earrings At Garage Sale

Posted: 01 Jul 2013 10:37 AM PDT

Some people discover hidden gems; other people lose them. Unfortunately for Dori Rhoades, she recently found herself in the latter camp.

The 38-year-old from Huntington Beach, Calif., last month sold a denim jacket for $20 at a garage sale. Simple enough, right? Wrong. Inside the pocket of that jacket was a pair of $18,000 diamond earrings, according to CBS Los Angeles. By the time Rhoades figured that out, it was too late.

But wait! It gets worse. Also inside the jacket was a ring that her husband gave to her and $1,500 that she had been saving for a vacation, CBS Los Angeles reports.

Huffington Post: Museum Of Food & Drink Launches Kickstarter Campaign For First Exhibit (VIDEO)

Posted: 01 Jul 2013 10:38 AM PDT

From ramen to pizza, kimchi to Jell-O, there are a lot of specific food museums out there. But there isn't actually a museum solely devoted to food. Sure -- there are interesting exhibits that come and go, such as the America Eats exhibit at the National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. or the Our Global Kitchen exhibit at the Museum of Natural History in New York, but these are impermanent. Dave Arnold, food scientist and the man behind New York's Booker & Dax cocktail bar, is hoping to change that.

Arnold and his team have been hard at work launching the Museum Of Food And Drink (MOFAD) in New York City. For the first exhibit, MOFAD is hoping to start with a bang -- literally. The museum plans to display a massive puffing gun as part of a traveling exhibit all about cereal. Here's what it looks like:
