Whoever thought the status of Washington, D.C.'s statehood would be one of them? This, after traveler (and D.C. resident) Ashley Brandt says she was delayed at the Phoenix airport last week after presenting a TSA agent with her D.C. license to confirm her identity. As the TSA requests a "state-issued photo ID," and Washington D.C. isn't a state but a federal district, Brandt says she was subject to extra inquiry. In a recollection of the incident to the Washington Post, Brandt says the agent looked at her ID, shook her head, and said, "I don't know if we can accept these ... Do you have a U.S. passport?" Huffington Post: A South Pacific Root Could Be Promising Against Bladder Cancer Posted: 28 Feb 2014 09:45 AM PST Scientists are finding promise of a bladder cancer treatment -- one of the most common cancers in the U.S. -- in a South Pacific root called kava. Dr. Xiaolin Zi, an associate professor of urology at the University of California, Irvine, noticed that while cigarette smoking is a leading cause of bladder cancer, the western Pacific Islands see a relatively low incidence of bladder cancer despite high smoking rates. He thinks kava might have something to do with it. Traditionally ground and turned into a drink for its relaxing qualities, kava contains compounds called flavokawains, which Zi has shown to stop bladder tumor growth in cell cultures and animal studies.
