Huffington Post: Watch Jim Gaffigan's Impossibly Adorable Kids Open For Their Dad At A Show

Posted: 31 Dec 2013 05:20 AM PST

Comedian Jim Gaffigan has often mentioned his ever-growing brood of children in his stand-up act, and at a recent show, he incorporated them even further: By having them open for him. And the results were more heartwarming than you can imagine.

At his show on December 29 at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee, Gaffigan's daughter Marre and son Jack came out dressed to the nines to remind audiences to turn off their cell phones. Jack also took some credit for his father's memoir: "I am the author of the title of the book, 'Dad is Fat.'"

The two kids then launched into a song and dance explaining how to spell their last name ("G-A-double F-I-G-A-N spells Gaffigan...") as Marre and Jack's younger siblings Katie and Michael joined them. Gaffigan's wife and producing partner Jeannie finally brought out the baby Patrick to complete the entire Gaffigan clan.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Chargers must feel they're living charmed lives these days.

How else to explain that everything they needed to have happen — and more — fell into place to allow them to sneak into the playoffs for the first time in four years?

"It feels like this season is meant to be special," Pro Bowl safety Eric Weddle said after another epic, heart-stopping win against the Kansas City Chiefs, 27-24 in overtime on Sunday, gave the Chargers the AFC's final postseason spot. "Whether it happens or not, we'll read that story at the end. But we're in, and no one really thought that could happen."

Huffington Post: Here Are All The Times Congress Screwed Americans This Year In The Name Of Austerity

Posted: 28 Dec 2013 06:19 AM PST

WASHINGTON -- As the year winds to a close, Congress is cautiously celebrating passing a year-end budget that relieves just about a third of the sequestration cuts. But those cuts, along with a slew of other fiscal measures enacted by Congress, amounted to a year of fiscal austerity that took money out of the economy, slowed GDP growth and cut the number of jobs that could have been created.

The tightening began on the first of the year, when the "fiscal cliff" deal passed both houses of Congress and was signed by President Barack Obama. While the deal did stop some sharp tax increases that would have put a real drag on economic growth, it allowed the payroll tax holiday to expire, meaning all workers got less money in their paychecks. Predictions made around the time the deal was crafted estimated it would shave between 0.4 and 0.6 percent off of GDP growth in 2013.

That deal delayed sequestration cuts for two months, and they began on March 1. The plan mandated $85 billion in across-the-board spending cuts until Oct. 1. The cuts damaged the public defender system, stalled cancer research and cut scientific research. The cuts also hit programs for the most vulnerable, including Head Start and Meals on Wheels.

Huffington Post: Catarina Migliorini Extends Virginity Auction While She Considers Marriage

A Brazilian college student is auctioning off her virginity for a third time, even as she considers a marriage proposal.

It has been nearly 15 months since Catarina Migliorini was offered $780,000 for her virginity from a Japanese millionaire, who bid for the privilege through a controversial online auction.

That deal was never consummated, so she attempted it again recently via her own website, VirginsWanted2.com. The latest auction was supposed to end Dec. 12, but she has extended the last day for bids to February 12.

Huffington Post: Backlash Over '12 Years A Slave' Posters With White Actors Ends With Apology

Posted: 27 Dec 2013 10:01 AM PST

An Italian distributor has apologized for "12 Years A Slave" posters featuring enlarged images of white actors alongside a small image of the film's black star.

Photos of the Italian posters spread on social networks earlier this week. The ads showed white actors like Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender featured prominently in the artwork, while the star, black actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, was featured secondarily in a lower corner. Although Ejifor has already received critical acclaim for his portrayal of Solomon Northup, a freeman kidnapped and forced into slavery in the 1800s, Pitt -- who is credited as a producer -- only has a small role in the flick.

Many criticized the juxtaposition.
