Huffington Post: Colbert Does The NRA & Nathan Deal One Better By Suggesting The 'Everywhere Is Guns' Law

Posted: 07 May 2014 10:16 AM PDT

On Tuesday, Stephen Colbert dug into the NRA annual meeting as well as Georgia Governor Nathan Deal signing the "guns everywhere" bill into law. And as much as Colbert applauds the gun enthusiasts' valiant efforts of late, he couldn't help but note that we can still do better.

How can we do better than having it be legal to carry concealed weapons into bars, schools and churches? Easy. Instead of "guns everywhere" let's pass "everywhere is guns."

Huffington Post: The NFL Draft Sleepers You Can't Afford Not To Know

Posted: 07 May 2014 10:18 AM PDT

If the NFL draft has taught us anything over the years, it's that it remains an imperfect science. High draft picks can disappoint (e.g. Oakland's JaMarcus Russell and Rolando McClain), low draft picks can overachieve (e.g. Seattle's Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor and Bobby Wagner) and undrafted players can shock the world -- think Dallas' Tony Romo and Cole Beasley. The draft "sleeper" is as coveted by GMs and scouts alike as anything, and if we do say so ourselves, previous editions of this column -- with names like Russell Wilson, Doug Martin, Terrance Williams, Giovani Bernard, Tyrann Mathieu, Eric Reid and Robert Woods -- have delivered.

With the 2014 draft kicking off this Thursday in New York City, let's take a look at the key sleepers to watch for this year. And don't forget about the record 98 juniors who entered.

WASHINGTON -- President Obama's labor secretary reminded House Speaker John Boehner Wednesday that he would like to see a vote on legislation restoring benefits to 2.6 million long-term unemployed Americans.

Labor Department boss Tom Perez noted in a letter to Boehner (R-Ohio) that the Senate already passed a bill reauthorizing the benefits that expired in December. Boehner has been unwilling to let the Senate bill get a vote in the House.

"We worked closely with a bipartisan group of Senators," Perez wrote, "and remain willing to do the same with you and others in the House."
