Huffington Post: Pizza Hut's 3-Cheese Stuffed Crust Proves There's No Such Thing As Too Much Cheese

Posted: 04 Oct 2013 08:37 AM PDT

Pizza Hut has announced a new stuffed crust addition to its menu: the 3-Cheese Stuffed Crust pizza. Starting Oct. 20, this white cheddar, mozzarella and provolone cheese stuffed crust will be available nationwide for $12.

In 1995, Pizza Hut changed the pizza delivery game by introducing its original stuffed crust pizza, which generated more than $300 million in sales the first year. Since then, the chain has expanded its offerings, including some pretty wacky cheese-crust situations like the recent Crazy Cheese Crust pizza. Not only did that pizza have five different cheeses, but it also boasted "pockets" within the crust, allowing for even more cheese.

The Crazy Cheese Crust was a limited time offering, similar to other crust experiments like the Ultimate Stuffed Crust. But the 3-Cheese Stuffed Crust is the first permanent new pizza offering in almost two decades.

Huffington Post: Netherlands Launches Legal Proceedings Against Russia Over Greenpeace Arrests

Posted: 04 Oct 2013 08:46 AM PDT

(Adds Greenpeace reaction, details)
By Thomas Escritt
AMSTERDAM, Oct 4 (Reuters) - The Netherlands launched legal proceedings against Russia on Friday, saying it had unlawfully detained Greenpeace activists on a Dutch-registered ship for protesting against oil drilling in the Arctic.
Two Dutch citizens were among 30 people on board the Arctic Sunrise, a Greenpeace ship, which was seized by Russian authorities last month after activists staged the protest at the Prirazlomnaya offshore oil platform.
Russian authorities have pressed piracy charges, which could result in prison sentences of 15 years, against the activists.
The Russian government declined immediate comment.
"The Netherlands today began an arbitration procedure on the basis of the (United Nations) Convention on the Law of the Sea," Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans wrote in a letter to the Dutch parliament.
Greenpeace said the activists had been engaged in a peaceful protest in international waters to highlight the environmental risks posed by drilling in Arctic waters.
"Russian officials will now be called to explain their actions before an international court of law, where (they) will be unable to justify these absurd piracy allegations," said Greenpeace lawyer Jasper Teulings.
The Dutch government contested the "unlawful manner" in which the ship was intercepted, Timmermans said, and would seek the release of all its passengers, who include 28 activists and two freelance journalists.
Apart from the Dutch citizens, the group includes one American, one Argentinian, one Australian, two Britons, two Canadians, one Dane, one Frenchman, one Italian, two New Zealanders, two Russians, one Swiss, and one Turk, according to Greenpeace
The Dutch government could "ask the Tribunal on the Law of the Sea for temporary measures for the release of the ship and its passengers," if the arbitration does not result in their release, he said.
The Hamburg-based International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea was set up in 1996 to settle maritime legal disputes between states. (Reporting By Thomas Escritt, additional reporting by Steve Gutterman. Editing by Anthony Deutsch; Editing by Jon Boyle and Angus MacSwan)

Huffington Post: Oregon Highway Shootout Ends With Death Of Gunman John Van Allen (VIDEO)

Posted: 04 Oct 2013 08:48 AM PDT

Police released video Thursday of a highway shootout that started when a man pulled a gun during a routine traffic stop -- while his kids waited in the car.

Oregon State Trooper Matthew Zistel sustained a bullet wound in his side when John Van Allen II, 34, allegedly fired several shots at him on Interstate 84 in August, KGW reports. Allen -- a trained military veteran who was on a road trip with his three children -- was killed by a single gunshot wound to the chest.

On the video released this week, Allen gets out of his car and stands still, staring at Zistel. The officer tells him repeatedly to get back in the car, but Allen resists, and eventually pulls a handgun. He begins firing and taking cover behind the cop car, then retreats, showing no visible signs of injury. Zistel calls dispatch as Allen flees.
