Huffington Post: Apparently, Chuck Norris Really Hates The Common Core State Standards

Posted: 14 Nov 2013 08:13 AM PST

Chuck Norris is apparently not a fan of the Common Core State Standards.

The actor-turned-conservative activist explained his disdain for the standards Monday, in a column for the right-wing content analysis website Newsbusters. The column, which is ostensibly the first in a series, says the standards are an example of federal overreach. He says they allow the government to invade local classrooms.

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) have been adopted by 45 states with the goal of making sure students across the country are being taught to the same benchmarks. While a group of governors and state education leaders developed the standards, the federal government tied states' adoption of the standards to funding.

Huffington Post: 'DeskBeers' Could Make Drinking At Work A Whole Lot Easier

Posted: 14 Nov 2013 08:13 AM PST

Ever find yourself hitting a wall at work and wishing... praying that someone would just bring you a beer? Well, your prayers may be getting answered. A London-based company called DeskBeers does exactly what its name implies. Every Friday, DeskBeers wants to deliver a round of craft beer straight to your desk to help you seamlessly transition into the weekend (or to make sure you never want to leave work again).

"But we want to drink at work every day, not just Fridays," you may be thinking. Don't worry. DeskBeers has "big plans," presumably to roll out beer delivery to other days of the work week. These guys know there are endless reasons to drink beer at work -- from rewarding your staff, to team-building, to getting those "creative juices flowing" -- and they want to make it as easy as possible.

On trend with many start-ups these days, DeskBeers keeps it local, focusing on craft beer from London breweries. It hopes to deliver a new brand each week, so that customers can get a taste of the wide variety London's craft breweries have to offer. It may seem no different than your average beer club -- although those tend to deliver on a monthly basis -- but DeskBeers just sounds so much better. Now we just need to get DeskBeers across the pond.

Huffington Post: Joe Bell's Death Inspires Others To Finish His Journey For Bullied Gay Son

Posted: 14 Nov 2013 08:13 AM PST

After his bullied gay son Jadin Bell committed suicide, Joe Bell began a cross-country journey in his memory that sought to raise awareness about bullying faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth. When the news broke that Bell had been tragically stuck and killed by a truck before completing his trek, individuals across the country mourned his loss.

Inspired and compelled by Bell's story, law enforcement officials and community members in Colorado banded together to symbolically complete the portion of Bell's journey he was engaged in when he was killed, according to 9 News.

"When a child is bullied there are usually a lot [of] witnesses," Bell told the La Grande Observer prior to his death. "Not doing anything is not acceptable. [Those who watch and do nothing] are just as guilty. They are saying that it is acceptable."

Huffington Post: Sinead O'Connor: Why I Wrote The Miley Letters

Posted: 14 Nov 2013 08:14 AM PST

Sinead O'Conner doesn't regret her public spat with Miley Cyrus, she told Time.

"I think what was more important really that came out of the Miley thing was this issue of being able to conversate about how mental health and human rights is now," she said. "I think she was actually very helpful. I think the two of us, without meaning to, did quite a good job in terms of creating conversation about something really, really important."

If you're just catching up, O'Conner posted on her website several open letters to the 'Wrecking Ball' singer. In them, she begged the pop star to not "let the music business make a prostitute of you" by wearing sexy clothing or dancing provocatively.
