Huffington Post: Kerry: U.S., Europe Will Take 'Serious Series Of Steps' If Russia Holds Crimea Referendum

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry urged Russia to abandon the proposed referendum on the annexation of Crimea, Reuters reported. Kerry said he said that if Russia holds the referendum, the U.S. and Europe will take a "serious series of steps" on Monday against Russia.

A state department official told the New York Times that Kerry said the referendum would "close any available space for diplomacy."

The U.S. response to Russia would likely include sanctions.

Huffington Post: Wisconsin State Senate Delivers Blow To Early Voting

The Republican-controlled Wisconsin state Senate voted Wednesday to end weekend voting before statewide elections and allow lobbyists to make political donations earlier in the election cycle.

The bill, approved by just one vote, would limit voting to weekdays leading up to elections.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Democrats decried the bill as a voting suppression effort. They also charged that the move could disenfranchise racial minorities, veterans, seniors and students, creating longer lines on election day.

Huffington Post: Arthur Sulzberger: The New York Times Is Not For Sale

NEW YORK -- Arthur Sulzberger Jr., the chairman of The New York Times Company and the paper's publisher, said Thursday that last year's sale of The Washington Post was a "shock out of the blue" and tough for him personally, while reiterating that his own paper was not for sale.

Inevitably, the Graham family's decision in August to sell the Post to Amazon chief Jeff Bezos shifted attention to the Ochs-Sulzberger family, the longtime stewards of the Times. Sulzberger said he and Michael Golden, the company's vice chairman and his cousin, held a family-wide phone call before telling colleagues in a memo that they were not selling the paper.

Sulzberger revealed Thursday there is a succession plan to groom six members of the 5th generation of the family for potential top leadership positions, including chairman and publisher.
