Huffington Post: An Easy Trick To Figure Out If A Company Has Secrets To Hide

Posted: 24 Mar 2014 09:38 AM PDT

People tend to skedaddle out of town whenever they smell trouble. Apparently, companies do the same thing.

Companies that schedule annual shareholder meetings in unusually remote locations tend to announce bad news fairly shortly thereafter, according to a new study by Yuanzhi Li of Temple University and David Yermack of New York University. And those companies usually see their stock prices tumble, too, according to the study.

In other words, if you want to know whether a company is about to hit hard times, keep an eye on where it schedules its annual meeting. Often, the more surprising the location, the worse the news, and the harder the company's stock price falls.

Huffington Post: Looks Like 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D' And 'Captain America 2' Crossover Is Happening

Posted: 24 Mar 2014 09:38 AM PDT

It looks like "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will have a crossover episode that ties in elements from the upcoming film "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," according to teases given by executive producer Jeph Loeb.

The news came during the S.H.I.E.L.D panel at PaleyFest following a sneak preview of the show's upcoming April 1 episode. When asked if "The Winter Soldier" would have any tie-ins with the show, The Hollywood Reporter notes that Loeb urged fans not to miss the episode that airs April 8. (That's four days after "The Winter Soldier" is released.)

"It would not surprise anyone if things that happen in the movie you mentioned are in the show we're talking about. I wouldn't miss it if I were you," he said, according to the outlet.

Huffington Post: Bureau Of Prisons To Make Halfway House Reforms, Holder Says

Posted: 24 Mar 2014 09:42 AM PDT

WASHINGTON -- The Federal Bureau of Prisons intends to impose new requirements on the more than 200 federal halfway houses throughout the country, mandating that they provide treatment for mental health and substance abuse issues, permit cell phone use and provide transportation so that inmates can pursue jobs, Attorney General Eric Holder announced Monday.

The new regulations, which will be posted online Monday, will also expand access to electronic monitoring equipment, like GPS ankle bracelets, which should allow more use of home confinement for former inmates re-entering society.

All halfway houses will have to offer standardized cognitive behavioral programs for federal inmates, and the Bureau of Prisons will set guidelines for the qualifications of instructors as well as the size and length of the classes, Holder said.
