Actor and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights activist George Takei will be honored this year with a spot in the Seattle Gay Pride Parade -- as the event's grand marshal.

Parade organizers made the announcement this week, citing Takei's compelling voice for the LGBT community.

"As an actor, social justice activist, social media power, author of Lions and Tigers and Bears and Bears: The Internet Strikes Back and Oh Myyy! There Goes the Internet, and star of [the] upcoming Broadway musical Allegiance, Takei has used his roles and public persona to advance LGBT and human rights around the world," organizers said in a statement.
