Huffington Post: Todd Akin May Get Financial Help In 2012 Missouri Senate Race From Sen. Jim DeMint

Posted: 21 Sep 2012 11:12 AM PDT

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) will consider throwing his political and financial support behind Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.), if the controversial Senate hopeful stays in the race, The Hill reports.

Such a move would break from the National Republican Senate Committee, which pulled its funds from the race after Akin's now-infamous comment about "legitimate rape" hit the national media circuit.

"I'm certainly looking at the race now," DeMint said. "Todd's a good conservative; he's been a good representative for a long time. He did make a mistake and said it was a mistake ... I'm going to look at the race and I would encourage [NRSC Chairman] John Cornyn (R-Texas) to look at all races where Republicans have a chance to win."

Huffington Post: Pet Seat Belts Debated In New Jersey; Proposed Law Would Make Unrestrained Animals Illegal

Posted: 21 Sep 2012 11:14 AM PDT

Assemblywoman Grace Spencer (D-Essex) -- who owns a Pomeranian named A.J., as well as five cats and a rabbit, according to Bloomberg -- has introduced a bill that would require motorists to secure dogs and cats in a seat belt-like harness if they're not being transported in crates.

Drivers found to be disobeying the proposed law would get a $20 ticket, the Ledger reports. Some could also be charged with animal cruelty, an offense with a fine of up to $1,000. If enacted, New Jersey would have the toughest animal seat belt law in the United States.
