Huffington Post: Ford India Ad: Car Company, Ad Agency Apologize For Figo Ad Showing Gagged & Bound Women (IMAGE)

Posted: 24 Mar 2013 08:44 AM PDT

Ford Motor Company and the advertising firm WPP have issued apologies after mock ups of ads for the Ford Figo, a hatchback made in India, were posted online last week, Business Insider's Laura Stampler reports.

While three posters were uploaded to (and removed from) Ads of the World, the one that has perhaps received the most attention features caricatures of three scantily-clad women with their hands and feet bound and their mouths gagged. In the driver's seat -- looking back and flashing a peace sign -- is a grinning man who looks a lot like Silvio Berlusconi, the embattled former Prime Minister of Italy. (Berlusconi is, of course, not only known for throwing wild "bunga bunga" sex parties, but is facing charges of paying for sex with an underage woman.)

Story continues after image.

Huffington Post: Jeff Tweedy Gay Marriage: Wilco Frontman Pens Op-Ed Calling For Marriage Equality In Illinois

Posted: 24 Mar 2013 08:59 AM PDT

In a letter published in a downstate Illinois newspaper, popular Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy wrote the "time is now" for marriage equality in the land of Lincoln.

Writing in the Belleville News-Democrat, Tweedy -- a Belleville, Ill. native now based in Chicago -- urged the Illinois state House of Representatives to approve same-sex marriage legislation:

By excluding same-sex couples from marriage, our state saddles them, their children and itself with second-class status. That is wrong, and it hurts Illinois families and businesses. … Nine other states have already extended the freedom to marry to gay and lesbian couples. I work and have friends in all those states, and I can say assuredly that it's time for Illinois to join them.

Huffington Post: Rand Paul All Right With 'Neutral' Federal Gay Marriage Law

Posted: 24 Mar 2013 09:02 AM PDT

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) suggested Sunday he wouldn't mind if the Supreme Court struck down "the federalization part" of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) when it takes up the issue this week, since he believes the issue should be left up to the states.

"I've always said that the states have the right to decide," Paul, who opposes gay marriage, said on "Fox News Sunday."

DOMA, the federal 1996 law, defines marriage as between one man and one woman. So does a 2004 amendment to Kentucky's state constitution.
