TBILISI, Georgia -- Thousands of anti-gay protesters, including Orthodox priests, occupied a central street in Georgia's capital Friday, with some threatening to lash with stinging nettles any participant in a gay pride parade which was to take place there.

Police in Tbilisi guarded several dozen gay activists and bused them out of the city center shortly after they arrived at the gathering. Those occupying the street held posters reading "We don't need Sodom and Gomorrah!" and "Democracy does not equal immorality!"

Vincent Kartheiser, who plays the malcontent Pete Campbell on AMC's "Mad Men," will star this summer in a new Guthrie production of "Pride and Prejudice" as the brooding hero of Jane Austen's most famous novel.

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) started running ads Thursday on Twin Cities television, touting House passage of her bill to repeal Obamacare -- just under a year and a half from her reelection bid.

"Great news!" Bachmann says in the ad. "The U.S. House just passed my bill to repeal Obamacare."

"Obamacare promised us lower costs and a better health care system. But the truth is just the opposite. Unaffordable, skyrocketing insurance costs and a system so complicated, well, even Democrats are calling it a 'train wreck,'" she continues, closing, "Passing my bill to repeal Obamacare is just the first step towards lower costs and improved health care."

KABUL, Afghanistan -- Afghan officials say a car bomb has exploded inside an elite gated community linked to the family of President Hamid Karzai near the southern city of Kandahar. At least nine people are dead and more than 70 wounded.

Kandahar government spokesman Javeed Faisal says the Friday evening blast happened inside Aino Mina, a housing complex on the northern outskirts of the city that was developed in part by Mahmood Karzai, the president's brother.
