Huffington Post: 51 Healthy Greek Yogurt Recipes For Any Meal Posted: 08 May 2013 09:16 AM PDT If you've been to a grocery store's dairy aisle lately, you've probably picked up on the fact that Greek yogurt is becoming pretty darn popular. At Greatist, we think this stardom is well earned: We consider the stuff a superfood thanks to its high protein and probiotic content. But frankly, we're getting a little sick of the classic Greek yogurt and granola combo that's been a staple of our breakfasts since who-knows-when. Posted: 08 May 2013 09:26 AM PDT A Michigan state agency has apparently had some doubts about honoring the safety record of a Detroit oil refinery -- one that recently experienced an explosion and fire that led to the partial evacuation of a nearby city. The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration Wednesday canceled an event Wednesday that would have presented the Marathon Oil company with a CET Platinum award for safety, while the company investigates the fire incident. Protests had been planned for the ceremony. "This is not a joke! The State of Michigan is giving Marathon Petroleum Company an award for 'Outstanding Safety and Health Record,' State Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Detroit) said in a Facebook post prior to the cancellation. "Marathon has had two fires and a number of MDEQ violations in the last two years, so residents are outraged that they are getting an award for safety and health." Read More... Huffington Post: Jim Cooper Uses The N-Word To Illustrate His Call For A Voting Rights Amendment Posted: 08 May 2013 09:28 AM PDT Rep. Jim Cooper (D-Tenn.) rattled off a list of epithets, including the N-word, at an event in his home state last week, The Tennessean reports, in order to make a point about civil rights. Cooper appeared at a Nashville Bar Association luncheon to pitch constituents on a proposed constitutional amendment that would seek to eliminate voter discrimination. "What it would do is grant, for the first time in American history, a constitutional right to vote," Cooper explained. "How many of you realize that, after the first 10 amendments to the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, seven of the 17 remaining amendments were necessary to expand voting rights?" Cooper asked the audience. "No other part of the original Constitution was so broken or so hard to fix. And more repairs are needed." Read More... More on Racism |
