Huffington Post: Usher On Justin Bieber: He's Young, 'We Hope... He'll Continue To Mature'

Posted: 29 May 2013 08:55 AM PDT

Usher has been with Justin Bieber from the beginning and he hopes the teenage superstar will continue to "mature" and get past the hurdles he's encountered.

The "Numb" singer sat down with Ellen DeGeneres on Tuesday and the subject of Bieber came up. Usher has been with The Biebs since 2008 when he and manager Scooter Braun discovered the Canadian hopeful. Fast forward five years and the 19-year-old is a multimillionaire who makes less headlines for his music and more for Twitter meltdowns, public booing, reckless driving and alleged marijuana use.

But make no mistake: Usher just sees Bieber as a normal young guy, who just so happens to live in the spotlight, and has some growing up to do.

Huffington Post: Eric Cantor: Obama Has 'Lost Focus' On Leadership, Is 'Disconnected' (VIDEO)

Posted: 29 May 2013 08:58 AM PDT

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said Tuesday that President Barack Obama's "disconnected" nature and lack of "focus" on leadership has contributed to the set of scandals plaguing his administration this month.

"It seems that he is disconnected with the leadership and lost focus in terms of what he should be doing as far as leading the country," Cantor told Greta Van Susteren of Fox News.

Asked if he thought the president was directly connected to the Internal Revenue Service's targeting of tea party groups seeking tax-exempt status, Cantor said he wasn't sure, which he then claimed was indicative of larger failures of leadership by Obama.

Huffington Post: IRS Targets Medical Marijuana Businesses In Government's Ongoing War On Pot

Posted: 29 May 2013 09:01 AM PDT

The tea party has company. For the past several years, the Internal Revenue Service has been systematically targeting medical marijuana establishments, relying on an obscure statute that gives the taxing agency unintended power. The IRS has been functioning as an arm of justice, employing the U.S. tax code as a weapon in the federal government's ongoing war against legal cannabis.

The majority of Americans favor legalization of marijuana, while 18 states and the District of Columbia have already legalized medical marijuana But pot businesses in those states are vulnerable to the federal government's strategic application of IRS Code Section 280E, a law enacted in 1982 after a drug dealer claimed his yacht and weapons purchases as legitimate business expenses -- and long before medical marijuana was first legalized in California in 1996.

Now the IRS is applying a rule originally aimed at illegal (and often violent) drug trafficking to businesses that are entirely legal under their states' laws. Medical marijuana dispensaries are facing audits and heavy tax bills that could force them out of business.
