Huffington Post: Trish Jarvis Begs Home Depot To Let Her Pay For $2,500 Worth Of Appliances (VIDEO) Posted: 04 May 2012 10:30 AM PDT We've all experienced the moral dilemma that accompanies a finished Coke not making its way onto your bill. Do you consider it a drink on the house? Or say something to the waiter? Well one California woman would likely do the latter, and then some. Trish Jarvis received more than $2,500-worth of appliances she ordered from Home Depot, without ever paying the bill, CBS Sacramento reports (h/t Consumerist). Jarvis called the home improvement giant repeatedly asking to pay, but the company wouldn't let her because, thanks to a computer glitch, officials thought she already paid. Read More... Huffington Post: Beastie Boy Dead: Celebrities React On Twitter Posted: 04 May 2012 10:31 AM PDT It's a sad day for the music industry: Adam Yauch, rapper, founding member, all-around beloved musician of the Beastie Boys , passed away on Friday at age 47. Fans and fellow musicians alike were affected by the shocking news about one of the preeminent, longest-lasting groups hip-hop has ever seen. Yauch and Michael "Mike D" Diamond first performed as the Beastie Boys with John Berry and Kate Schellenbach in 1981. The group released eight albums and has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide. Yauch was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his salivary gland in 2009; he was unable to attend the Beastie Boys' induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April 2012, spurring speculation that the rapper had fallen gravely ill. Posted: 04 May 2012 10:32 AM PDT As the weather warms, Coloradans do what comes naturally: get outside for a nice trail run, mountain bike ride, maybe even host a picnic or two. In Carbondale, however, the warm weather seems to have also arrived with naked men. The Garfield County Sheriff's Office has responded to a surprising uptick in reports of naked, trail-running men in the area, and has issued a press release warning residents there: Never, Never, Walk alone! Always have at least one partner, be aware of your surroundings at all times, look, listen and do not become complacent, carry a cell phone in case of emergency and always report anything suspicious, immediately. Do not put yourself in harm's way if you witness something inappropriate. It's important to be confident, loud and not willing to be a victim of any crime. Read More... Huffington Post: NYC 911 System Troubled By Delays And Errors Says Report Posted: 04 May 2012 10:33 AM PDT NEW YORK -- New York City's 911 system is beset by delays and errors that could leave callers without help for crucial seconds in an emergency, while the city's fire and police departments are not working together to prepare for the surge in calls that would come with a massive crisis such as a terrorist attack, according to a consultant's report report that suggested City Hall managers were given manipulated data on the system. Mayor Michael Bloomberg's office released an edited version of the report on Friday. His administration is fighting legal efforts to force it to release earlier versions, and it was not immediately clear how the document had been altered from its draft form. When the New York Post first wrote about the report last month it described a 216-page document, but the version released Friday by the city had 133 pages. Read More... More on NY News |
