Calling on Congress Wednesday to enact specific gun control laws, President Barack Obama cited widespread support for such changes, including a ban on assault weapons, a move to close the "loophole" that allows buyers at gun shows to bypass background checks, and a potential limitation on high-capacity ammunition clips.

After acknowledging the nation's tradition of gun ownership, Obama told reporters at the press conference, "I am also betting that the majority, the vast majority of responsible, law-abiding gun owners would be some of the first to say that we should be able to keep an irresponsible few from buying a weapon of war."

While polling shows that while a wide majority of Americans believe they have the right to own a gun, many in fact may also be open to some restrictions.

WASHINGTON -- When five-term Democratic Rep. Joe Baca (D-Calif.) lost to Democratic state Sen. Negrete McLeod in a surprise upset in November, no one saw it coming.

Except for maybe the San Bernardino County representative's true opponent: New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

From 3,000 miles away, Bloomberg spent $3.3 million of his own money -- more than double what both candidates spent combined -- through his super PAC, Independence USA, to defeat the pro-gun Baca in his Southern California district.

Huffington Post: Hungarian Students Protest Education Reforms

BUDAPEST, Hungary — Hungarian high school and university students went ahead Wednesday with protests against changes in the education system despite the government's acceptance of some of their demands.

In Budapest, the capital, several thousand students gathered outside the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, dissatisfied with the concessions announced by the government. Calling their protest the "Winter Rose Student Revolution," they later marched downtown and threw rose petals into the Danube River.
