Huffington Post: 'Glee' Season 5: NeNe Leakes To Return As Coach Roz For Multiple Episodes

Posted: 12 Aug 2013 08:11 PM PDT

"Glee" Season 5 just got a whole lot sassier, with E! News reporting that NeNe Leakes is set to reprise her role as Coach Roz Washington in multiple episodes.

"Glee" fans last saw Leakes in the Season 4 episode "All or Nothing," where she served as coach of the Cheerios after replacing the fired Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch). Leakes was also a regular on NBC's recently cancelled "The New Normal," and continues to participate in Bravo's "Real Housewives of Atlanta" series along with her own show, "I Dream of NeNe," which will air a wedding spinoff this fall.

There's no word yet on which episodes of "Glee" Season 5 Leakes will appear in. The show's first two episodes back will feature a Beatles tribute, while episode three will deal with the death of star Cory Monteith and will serve to write his character, Finn Hudson, out of the series. Fox president Kevin Reilly told reporters at the Television Critics Association summer press tour that "the episode will deal directly with the incidents involved in Cory's passing and the drug abuse in particular. Ryan [Murphy] himself is going to shoot some PSAs with the cast, in which -- as cast members, as friends of Cory's -- they're going to speak directly to the audience. I think they're going to be very, very impactful."

Huffington Post: N.S.A. Leaks Make Plan For Cyberdefense Unlikely

Posted: 12 Aug 2013 08:20 PM PDT

Even while rapidly expanding its electronic surveillance around the world, the National Security Agency has lobbied inside the government to deploy the equivalent of a "Star Wars" defense for America's computer networks, designed to intercept cyberattacks before they could cripple power plants, banks or financial markets. But administration officials say the plan, championed by Gen. Keith B. Alexander, the director of the National Security Agency and head of the Pentagon's Cyber Command, has virtually no chance of moving forward given the backlash against the N.S.A. over the recent disclosures about its surveillance programs.

Huffington Post: Spitzer-Stringer Debate Loaded With Fiery Exchanges

Posted: 12 Aug 2013 08:24 PM PDT

NEW YORK -- A contentious decision to allow Mayor Michael Bloomberg to run for a third term was the hot-button topic Monday in a debate for the powerful office of city comptroller.

Former Gov. Eliot Spitzer and Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, in a fiery encore to their heated first debate, exchanged verbal haymakers over Bloomberg's legacy, as Spitzer seized upon Stringer's support of the 2009 decision to overturn term limits and let the mayor run again as a way to question his judgment.

Huffington Post: Michelle Johnson's Air Force Academy Tenure Begins

Posted: 12 Aug 2013 08:46 PM PDT

By Karen Brooks
Aug 12 (Reuters) - The first woman to lead the U.S. Air Force Academy formally took command on Monday, ushering in a new era for the 59-year-old military school in Colorado.
Lieutenant General Michelle Johnson, welcomed with a Change of Command ceremony, told a crowd of hundreds of cadets, staff, service leaders and supporters that she looked forward to the challenge of leading the academy through both its triumphs and its challenges.
"We can find meaning in adversity, and there are lessons from overcoming negative experiences and to grow stronger through them," she said.
Johnson takes over for Lieutenant General Mike Gould, a 1976 graduate who was superintendent for four years and who is set to retire in October. Johnson is the academy's 19th superintendent.
The arrival of a female chief signals a change for a school that has seen its share of sexual scandals, most recently the dismissal of cadet Jamil Cooks after his April conviction on a charge of abusive sexual conduct after he pleaded guilty to the unlawful entry into the rooms of two female cadets.
In 2003, reports that dozens of female academy cadets had been sexually assaulted by fellow cadets in incidents covering a decade, but that academy officials ignored or downplayed their complaints, led to Congressional hearings.
Johnson, a 1981 academy graduate, was the academy's first female cadet wing commander. She comes to the academy after serving as the Deputy Chief of Staff of Operations and Intelligence at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
Johnson attended Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar and earned a master's degree in politics and economics.
The academy was authorized by President Dwight. D. Eisenhower in 1954, offering a four-year program to graduate cadets with a bachelor of science and a commission as second lieutenant in the Air Force. (Reporting by Karen Brooks; Editing by Dan Whitcomb and Eric Walsh)
