TEHRAN, Iran -- Iran's outgoing nuclear chief says Tehran has a total of 18,000 centrifuges for uranium enrichment – a process that can be a pathway to making nuclear weapons. The number is higher by a third than publicly known.

Fereidoun Abbasi's announcement came as he handed over his post Saturday to Ali Akbar Salehi, appointed by new President Hasan Rouhani.

MEXICO CITY, Aug 17 (Reuters) - Mexican security forces on Saturday caught the leader of the cocaine-trafficking Gulf Cartel, local media reported, the second major gang boss capture in just over a month as President Enrique Pena Nieto fights cartel violence.

Mario Ramirez Trevino, known as X-20 or "The Bald One," was captured in Mexico's northern Tamaulipas state by the Mexican military, media reported.

Ramirez had not long been the leader of the Gulf Cartel, whose former boss Mario Cardenas, alias "Fatso", was caught in September.
