Huffington Post: The Summer of Cronut (And 6 Other Food Trends We Saw in New York This Summer)

Posted: 28 Aug 2013 07:56 AM PDT

It's hard to believe that summer's winding down. Here we are, with Labor Day in sight and crisp air, cozy sweaters and apple cider on the mind. Before we jump into the next season, however, let's pause and relish in all the great food we ate in New York this summer.

Each summer sees its food trends: last summer Pok Pok took the city by storm and all anyone could talk about was the hipster exodus to Montauk. The summer before that it was the Rockaways, specifically the Rockaway Beach Boardwalk, and even more specifically, Rockaway Taco (well worth the hype, in my opinion.) So what were this summer's biggest trends in New York?

The Cronut

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- A Puerto Rico lawyer has been arrested on allegations he collected funds meant to bribe a judge to overturn a life sentence for a drug dealer once dubbed the "Pablo Escobar of the Caribbean," officials said Tuesday.

Huffington Post: George Zimmerman's Wife Pleads Guilty In Perjury Trial Related To Trayvon Martin Case

Posted: 28 Aug 2013 07:59 AM PDT

Although ultimately unable to secure a conviction against George Zimmerman, Florida prosecutors successfully convinced his wife to plead guilty to perjury charges relating to her husband's murder trial.

Shellie Zimmerman, who once dreamed of becoming a nurse, agreed to plead guilty Wednesday to a misdemeanor charge carrying a sentence of one year of probation and 100 hours of community service, according to reports. The deal also requires her to apologize to the judge.

Originally charged with a third-degree felony, Zimmerman could have spent five years in jail if convicted, the Orlando Sentinel reports. She initially pleaded not guilty to the charge, according to the Associated Press.

Huffington Post: Léa Seydoux's No Makeup Cover For Jalouse Is So Refreshing (PHOTO)

Posted: 28 Aug 2013 07:59 AM PDT

Finally: There's a magazine cover on newsstands that we can actually relate to, and it comes straight from the fashion capital of the world.

Jalouse, a forward-thinking French style glossy, has put Léa Seydoux on its September cover, foregoing the standard glam hair and makeup in lieu of a more "real" look. Photographed by Juergen Teller, the French actress gazes into the camera barefaced and sporting decidedly disheveled hair. Call us crazy, but we love it. Sure, Léa's gorgeous and doesn't need much styling. But after the barrage of glitzy, over-the-top September covers (see here, here and here), it's beyond refreshing to see a magazine take such a staunch stance against all of the fuss.

Check out Jalouse's cover below and tell us: Do you want to see more of this on newsstands? Or do you prefer the usual razzle-dazzle?
