Huffington Post: 'Dark Knight Rises' Box Office Sales Stumble Due To Aurora Shooting, Olympics

Posted: 28 Jul 2012 09:55 AM PDT

Despite the Aurora, Colorado shooting at last Friday's midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises," the summer blockbuster had a solid opening with $160.9 million in ticket sales, but the film's second weekend is boasting weaker numbers.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "The Dark Knight Rises" is expected to rake in $59 million this weekend -- a seemingly impressive total that is unfortunately $16 million behind the second weekend of the trilogy's sophomore film, "The Dark Knight."

THR suggests that audiences are not only forgoing a night at the movies because of the Colorado massacre, but also because of the Olympics -- bad timing that could result in a 30 percent box office decrease from last year.

Huffington Post: iPhone Prototypes That Never Left Apple's Lab (PHOTOS)

Posted: 28 Jul 2012 10:00 AM PDT

The ongoing Apple vs. Samsung mudslinging match just got a little more interesting for those watching from the sidelines.

Last week, documents showing a prototype of the iPad were released, giving the public an interesting look into the Apple's secretive world, and what goes on in its lab. Now The Verge has posted photos from court documents showing an array of iOS Apple products in multiple stages of production -- and one of those designs has a Sony label on it.

"According to the filing, it was designed by Apple's Shin Nishibori, and was apparently up against another more metallic, iPod-style device at one point," Engadget reports.

LONDON — The Americans just might be able to back up their big talk.

While perennial gymnastics powerhouses China and Japan bobbled and wobbled their way through men's qualifying Saturday, the Americans proved they really do have the goods to contend for the gold medal. They didn't count a single fall, and their final score of 275.342 is almost three points ahead of surprising Britain.

Huffington Post: Jimmy Fallon's Thank You Notes For Olympic Hurdles, Phone Books & More (VIDEO)

Posted: 28 Jul 2012 10:13 AM PDT

The hurdles are undoubtedly one of the most entertaining events in the Olympics, and not just because of one athlete's sexy warm-up routine.

As Jimmy Fallon pointed out on "Late Night" Friday night, the potential for mishaps also makes the hurdles sort of like an Olympic version of "America's Funniest Home Videos" (or FAIL compilations, if you want to be 2012 about it). For that, he wrote them a thank you note.

Fallon's other thank you notes this week were heavy on the inanimate objects, including phone books for combining the two things no one uses anymore. Luckily, they still make pretty good door stops. Watch the video above.
