Huffington Post: Working-Class Incomes Fell After Crisis, While The Bosses Saw Pay Rise

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 10:50 AM PDT

The sluggish economy has been more sluggish for some than others.

The median earnings of working class people fell more than 4 percent between 2007 and 2010, according to an analysis of Census data prepared for Bloomberg. That's while college-educated professionals or managers saw median earnings jump nearly 2 percent.

The findings add evidence to a widely reported trend -- that the recession's losses and the recovery's gains have actually hit middle class and poorer Americans harder than the rich and corporate elite. S&P 500 companies made an average of $420,000 per employee last year, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis from earlier this year. That's a full ninth more than in 2007 before the recession. Top Wall Street CEOs also saw pay grow by 20 percent.

Today we are looking a the sensation that is a "Photo a Day" video, in which people chronicle their lives and appearances by snapping daily photos for an extended period of time. (Some extend for one year, others for half a decade or more.) We have compiled a slideshow of the best variations on the theme YouTube has to offer.

Behind the cheesy fonts and bad background music we see hints of a radical performance piece by artist Tehching Hsieh. For "Year Performance 1980-1981 (Time Clock Piece)" Hsieh punched a worker's time clock in his studio, on the hour, every hour, for an entire year. Just to hammer it in, this made it impossible to sleep for over 59 minutes at a time for an entire year! With each punch he took a self-portrait on a single frame of 16mm film, combining them to create a film depicting a year in his life at one second per day.
