Huffington Post: Shakil Afridi, Pakistani Doctor Who Helped Catch Osama Bin Laden, Faces Prison As Payback

Posted: 29 Jun 2012 10:14 AM PDT

WASHINGTON -- U.S. officials have called him a hero. Leaders of his own country labeled him a traitor. And some who accuse him of medical malpractice say he is little more than a quack.

But more than a year after Navy SEALs killed Osama bin Laden and weeks after the Pakistani doctor was sentenced to 33 years in prison in what is widely viewed as retaliation for helping track the al Qaeda leader to his hideout, Shakil Afridi is indisputably all alone.

Held in solitary confinement in Peshawar's central jail for his own safety, Afridi is surrounded by hundreds of imprisoned militants who would like nothing more than to slash the throat of the man who helped the CIA find bin Laden. Besides the "lunatics in the jail" who supported bin Laden, he is in danger from "security folks who want to kill him for being a spy," said Christine Fair, an expert on Pakistan at Georgetown University's Center for Peace and Security Studies.

Posted: 29 Jun 2012 10:15 AM PDT

When the U.S. Department of Homeland Security dared a Texas university research group to bring down a flying drone, the team accepted the challenge and did just that.

Turns out it's not too difficult to hack a drone.

Nor too expensive, for that matter. RT reports that the University of Texas at Austin scientists, led by Professor Todd Humphreys, managed to bring down a flying drone with a spoofer costing just $1,000. The research group gained control of the drone busing a device to hack its GPS system, according to Scientific American.
