Huffington Post: Steve King: TSA Gives Grandma 'The Spread-Eagle Search' While '20-Year-Old Middle Eastern Male Waltzes Through'

Posted: 24 Aug 2012 10:41 AM PDT

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) said Monday that the TSA's security screening in U.S. airports needs to be more selective so grandmothers don't get "the spread-eagle search" while a "20-year-old Middle Eastern male waltzes through with a smirk on his face."

During a town hall meeting in Le Mars, Iowa, King told attendees that he disagrees with federal officials who think that airport security should follow a uniform procedure for passenger screening.

"As America, we've decided that we're going to process everybody the same," King said. "So that means the 75-year-old grandmother gets the spread-eagle search and while that happens, maybe the 20-year-old Middle Eastern male waltzes through with a smirk on his face. I'm not making that up. I've seen that. That image will not ever leave my mind."

Huffington Post: DEA Tells Washington Medical Marijuana Dispensaries Near Schools To Shut Down

Posted: 24 Aug 2012 10:41 AM PDT

It might be getting harder to get legally high in Washington state.

On Thursday, the Drug Enforcement Administration sent letters to the owners and landlords of 23 of the state's medical marijuana businesses, stating the properties were subject to prosecution and seizure if they didn't shut down operations within the next 30 days, the Seattle Times reports.

The DEA letters state the 23 businesses had been deemed to be 1,000 feet or closer to a school "or other prohibited area," but in fact state law does not authorize dispensaries of any type.

Huffington Post: Josh Mandel, Ohio Senate Candidate, Threatened With Lawsuit By American Bridge

Posted: 24 Aug 2012 10:45 AM PDT

The Republican nominee for Ohio's U.S. Senate seat is being threatened with legal action by a Democratic super PAC for his decision to not answer requests for records from his state office.

On Thursday, American Bridge 21st Century sent notification to the general counsel of current Ohio Treasurer and Tea Party favorite Josh Mandel asking for records and resumes of those hired by Mandel since he took office in January 2011. That same material was provided to the Ohio Democratic Party in June following nine records requests.

American Bridge's request comes after a series of unanswered public records requests from Ohio Democrats to the treasurer's office and as Mandel is challenging Sen. Sherrod Brown (D) in a competitive race for the U.S. Senate.

Huffington Post: U.S. Annual Income Fell More During Recovery Than Recession: Study

Posted: 24 Aug 2012 10:45 AM PDT

We may technically be in a recovery, but it sure doesn't feel like it.

Median annual income has declined 4.8 percent from $53,508 to $50,964 since the recovery technically began in June 2009 , according to a new study from Sentier Research. That's nearly double the 2.6 percent drop during the recession.

One especially hard-hit group: Americans aged 55 to 64, who saw their annual income drop nearly 10 percent. But African-Americans have felt the pain the most during the recovery as their incomes declined 11 percent.
