Huffington Post: 'Game Change': HBO's Sarah Palin Film Sparks Twitter Reactions Posted: 11 Mar 2012 09:51 AM PDT HBO's highly-anticipated film "Game Change" premiered Saturday night, and it sparked many reactions from viewers from both ends of the political spectrum. The film, based on the book of the same name, chronicles the 2008 presidential election from the perspectives of the GOP presidential candidate Sen. John McCain (Ed Harris) and his vice presidential running mate, Sarah Palin (Julianne Moore). Palin dismissed the HBO film -- airing publicly for the first time on Saturday night -- as unimportant. In an email to ABC News, Palin said her "family has the right priorities and knows what really matters," according to the Chicago Tribune. As she brushed off the film, she also took a swipe at President Barack Obama for having supporters in the entertainment industry. Read More... More on Video |
Huffington Post: Egypt Parliament To Consider Cutting Off U.S. Aid Posted: 11 Mar 2012 10:00 AM PDT CAIRO -- Egypt's Islamist-dominated parliament called on Sunday for a vote on stopping U.S. aid, but it is unlikely that such a move would oblige the nation's military rulers to ask Washington to halt $1.5 billion in American aid this year. The move by the People's Assembly was sparked by the March 1 departure of six American defendants in a case of 43 employees of nonprofit groups accused of using illegal foreign funds to foment unrest in Egypt. The 43 include 16 Americans, nine of whom were already outside the country when the case was referred to trial. One opted to stay behind and face the trial. Read More... More on Egypt |
Huffington Post: Texting While Driving: 'I Should Have Kept My Hands On The Wheel' Posted: 11 Mar 2012 10:07 AM PDT This is a teen-written article from our friends at L.A. Youth, a nonprofit organization that helps teens advocate for themselves through journalism, literacy and civic engagement. By Yuri Kim, 17, Bevery Hills High School When I got my driver's license last September I was really excited. Even though for the first year you have your license, you're not allowed to have passengers under the age of 20, I ignored the rules and went everywhere with my friends -- the mall, restaurants, coffee shops and the beach. My mom warned me that if I got in an accident, she would take my car away. I promised her that I would be careful. But I didn't listen. Since everyone I knew, even my parents and friends, texted while driving, I didn't think it was dangerous. I texted whenever I was at stop signs or red lights because I thought it was safe. Huffington Post: U.S. Soldier Opens Fire On Civilians In Afghanistan Posted: 11 Mar 2012 10:21 AM PDT BALANDI, Afghanistan — An American soldier opened fire on villagers near his base in southern Afghanistan Sunday and killed 16 civilians, according to President Hamid Karzai, who called it an "assassination" and furiously demanded an explanation from Washington. Nine children and three women were among the dead. The killing spree deepened a crisis between U.S. forces and their Afghan hosts over Americans burning Muslim holy books on a base in Afghanistan last month. The burnings sparked weeks of violent protests and attacks that left some 30 dead. Six U.S. service members have been killed by their Afghan colleagues since the Quran burnings came to light, and the violence had just started to calm down. Read More... More on Afghanistan |
