Huffington Post: Richard Carmona Accuses Jeff Flake Of 'Picking On' Veterans

Posted: 18 Oct 2012 11:31 AM PDT

CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Arizona Democratic senate candidate Richard Carmona hit back against opponent Rep. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) on Thursday, responding to Flake's attacks that he can't work others and suggesting that Flake has a problem with veterans.

"This is a false narrative, and it's from the playbook that he's playing from. It's the same thing they used against [Republican Arizona Sen.] John McCain in 2000 when, as a warrior, they said, 'He can't get along with people.' You remember that? 'He's just very difficult,'" Carmona said during a Thursday debate with Flake, at a golf resort. "They start these narratives, and if they say it long enough they believe people are going to catch on."

"I think it's just us veterans you're picking on, because of John and I both being warriors, but the fact is, we stood up for what's right," he continued.

Huffington Post: Tea Party Republicans Face Re-Election Challenges In Tight House Races

Posted: 18 Oct 2012 11:33 AM PDT

RAMSEY, Minn. — Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann's tendency to cause a ruckus on Capitol Hill made her a tea party sensation. Her bulging campaign treasury and conservative district make her a clear favorite to win a fourth House term on Election Day, despite her Democratic rival's attempts to turn her won't-budge philosophy into a liability.

Three other high-profile House conservatives, facing opponents insisting that their views are too extreme, have trickier paths to re-election next month. GOP Reps. Allen West of Florida, Steve King of Iowa and Joe Walsh of Illinois are all embroiled in tough and expensive races that are drawing plenty of spending by friends and foes from around the country.

Huffington Post: Tim Kaine, George Allen Face Off In Final Debate

Posted: 18 Oct 2012 11:33 AM PDT

RICHMOND, Va. -- U.S. Senate candidates George Allen and Timothy M. Kaine will make their closing arguments tonight in Blacksburg at the third and final debate in the former governors' closely contested race.

In a matchup that has in large part been overshadowed by a presidential contest thus far, Kaine and Allen have run neck and neck for more than a year and a half. A handful of recent polls showed Kaine having built up a narrow edge, but others suggest the race remains deadlocked.

An NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll released last week had Kaine at 47 percent to Allen's 46 percent -- a statistical tie -- while a Quinnipiac University/New York Times/CBS News survey released the same day showed Kaine up 51 percent to 44 percent.
