Each year, Japan's cherry blossoms create one of the most stunning spring scenes our world has to offer. This weekend, thousands of people came out across the country to admire the white and pink blossoms, the Tokyo Times reports.

Japan's national weather service announced last Friday that blooming began on March 31. This announcement signals the official start of picnick, parties and festivals to celebrate the blossoms. According to The Telegraph, this annual spring tradition of enjoying the cherry blossoms on "sakura" trees goes back hundreds of years.

Last year, many festivities were canceled in the wake of the devastating earthquake that took the lives of tens of thousands of people. "We weren't in the mood for partying under the flowers," Tokyo city official Tatsuko Suzuki told the Tokyo Times.

In about two months, 17-year-old Joy Womack will be the first American to graduate from a world-class Russian ballet school.

The Texas native traveled nearly 6,000 miles from home to study at the prestigious Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow, where she trained for years with instructors and other dancers, NBC reports.

Teachers from the academy extended a special invitation to Womack after they noticed her at the school's 2009 summer intensive, according to Dance magazine.

Huffington Post: Brittany London Shoplifted, Stun-Gunned Officer, Abandoned Baby At Louisiana Mall, Cops Say

A Louisiana woman could have gotten off on a minor charge for shoplifting -- instead she's being hunted by police for allegedly using a stun gun on a mall cop and then fleeing, leaving behind a baby she was caring for.

Brittany London, 31, was caught shoplifting Saturday at a mall in Kenner while pushing a stroller, cops told WWL.

When confronted, London allegedly disabled the cop using a stun gun and then fled in a Honda Accord. The stroller and the baby -- who is estimated to be 6 to 8 months old -- were left behind.
