Huffington Post: Emoticon Defense Used In Cyberbullying Case: Can It Work?

Posted: 27 Apr 2012 10:52 AM PDT

INDIANAPOLIS -- Even if three Indiana girls were just kidding around and used emoticons and LOLs when they discussed killing classmates on Facebook, their talk still could be considered cyberbullying if it inflicted emotional harm, experts say.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of the eighth-graders this week, claiming the Griffith Public Schools district in northern Indiana violated the girls' civil rights when it expelled them on the basis of a personal off-campus conversation that attorneys say shouldn't have been taken so seriously.

Huffington Post: John Edwards And Andrew Young: Another Love Affair Turned Sour

Posted: 27 Apr 2012 10:55 AM PDT

John Edwards and Rielle Hunter's torrid romance may be over, but their breakup was a happy one compared to what happened between Edwards and Andrew Young, the former aide who was once so devoted to Edwards that he claimed paternity of the former senator's love child.

As Edwards' criminal trial reaches the end of its first week, Young has been cast as a spurned lover who was used and discarded once his lie was laid bare. Defense attorney Abbe Lowell asked Young outright if he fell in love with Edwards:

Huffington Post: Taschen Book 'Information Graphics' Presents Beauty Of Design (PHOTOS)

Posted: 27 Apr 2012 10:58 AM PDT

Sometimes simplicity is far harder to achieve than complexity. That is where design comes in. In a new book by Taschen, titled, "Information Graphics," we see a range of diverse subjects stripped down and presented in similar ways. Information ranges from an atlas of UK government spending to a representation of the different varieties of beer. (And surprisingly, the beer graphic looks harder to navigate!)

This book, a design nerd's fantasy, comes at the perfect time. The internet's rule has led to a rise in popularity of information graphics, all attempting to communicate ideas visually in the most effective ways possible. Sometimes how we see can completely alter what we can know. The book features essays examining the history of visual communication, looking back all the way to cave paintings. There are over 400 examples of contemporary infographics, each with a written explanation.

Taschen is often known for its sexy books, and for a design lover this coffee table prize will be no exception. BoingBoing dubbed it "a new Taschen porn book you can't live without," and we agree.
