Huffington Post: Obama Has Higher Presence Than Romney In New Hampshire

Posted: 11 Apr 2012 11:08 AM PDT

Romney, who made countless stops here prior to the New Hampshire Primary, now has a lot of ground to make up after spending the last three months campaigning elsewhere.

The Obama campaign has been busy during that time ramping up with staffers, and Biden has spent a ton of time here in recent months.

"They started early," said Andy Smith, director of the University of New Hampshire Survey Center. "This is Biden's fifth or sixth visit, Obama's been up here, his wife's been up here. This is an indication they think this state's going to be very close. And the fact that only four electoral votes are at stake here means they think the entire race is going to be close."

Huffington Post: Presidential Election 2012 To Play Out On New Campaign Finance Field

Posted: 11 Apr 2012 11:15 AM PDT

WASHINGTON -- As Rick Santorum exits the Republican presidential primary campaign stage right and Newt Gingrich wallows in a sea of debt, the general election match-up between President Barack Obama and presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney begins in earnest. Thanks to a sea change in campaign finance laws brought about by the Supreme Court and a shift in fundraising norms driven by Obama's decision to opt out of presidential matching funds in 2008, this campaign will be unlike any other in recent memory.

The 2012 contest will be the first since 1972 in which neither major-party candidate will accept presidential matching funds in the general election. Both Obama and Romney will be free to raise as much money as they can and spend as much money as possible. The campaign will also be the first since the McCain-Feingold ban on soft money was implemented in which unlimited contributions from corporations, unions and the wealthiest Americans will play a major, if not pivotal, role.

"We're in the Wild West," said Meredith McGahee, policy director for the campaign finance watchdog Campaign Legal Center. "For a generation, we've had either one or both candidates participating in a system of limited spending. The [current] candidates aren't in the system, so they have no limits. And the outside groups have no limits."

Huffington Post: Coke Machine Takes Hugs Instead Of Money (VIDEO)

Posted: 11 Apr 2012 11:15 AM PDT

A great hug can mean warmth, safety, comfort and a bunch of other mushy feelings. The only thing that could possible make it better? A free Coke.

One Coca-Cola vending machine at the National University of Singapore is providing opportunities for just that, according to Forbes. The machine, which says "Hug Me" on the outside requires a hug instead of money in order to get a taste of the bubbly beverage.

Coke is known for its innovative marketing. The company was ranked the number one global brand for social media marketing by Covario thanks in large part to its aggressive campaigns that look more like stories than ads. Diet Coke also hired Jean Paul Gaultier, the designer responsible for Madonna's infamous cone-shaped bra, to be its creative director in March.
