Huffington Post: Osama Bin Laden Raid: White House Counterterrorism Adviser Talks Al Qaeda, Drones One Year Later

Posted: 29 Apr 2012 09:56 AM PDT

WASHINGTON -- White House counterterrorism adviser John Brennan appeared on three separate Sunday morning programs to discuss the administration's efforts against al Qaeda a year after President Barack Obama ordered the raid that killed Osama bin Laden.

"We're on the path towards al Qaeda's destruction, and the president has committed that we're not going to rest until al Qaeda is destroyed as an organization," Brennan told CNN's "State of the Union with Candy Crowley." "We're not going to relent until they're brought to justice one way or the other. We demonstrated the ability to do that with bin Laden."

Last week, the Obama campaign team released a video lauding the dramatic May 2, 2011, raid on bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, and suggesting that Mitt Romney, the prospective GOP presidential nominee, would not have done the same. The campaign video drew strong criticism from the Romney camp as well as from Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), a Romney supporter and Obama's opponent in the 2008 election.

Posted: 29 Apr 2012 09:56 AM PDT

With all our emphasis on charismatic fish and stunning coral formations, boring old algae tends to get skipped over by most observers of the underwater world. Being out here in the South Pacific with an algae expert though, it doesn't take long to be won over by these intriguingly important life forms.

Kike Ballesteros of the Centre d'Estudis Avançats de Blanes, CSIC, is NG Explorer-in-Residence Enric Sala's long-time mentor and collaborator. He is also the master of all things algal for the Pitcairn Islands expedition, and he agreed to enlighten me about the wonders of algae.

Huffington Post: How 'The Hunger Games' Should Have Ended (VIDEO)

Posted: 29 Apr 2012 09:58 AM PDT

WARNING: The above video contains violence and 'Hunger Games' plot spoilers.

After the amazing 'Hunger Games' Beanie Babies video hit YouTube last month, we were pretty sure no fan-made 'HG'-themed viral video could top it. We were wrong. "How The Hunger Games Should Have Ended," created by HISHEdotcom and directed by Daniel Baxter, is a hilarious re-imagining of how the record-breaking first movie based off of Suzanne Collin's best-selling trilogy could -- or should -- have ended. (Without giving too much away, we'll say that those of you on #TeamGale will probably be particularly amused with the events that transpire.)

This 'Hunger Games' video is the latest installment in an ongoing series from HowItShouldHaveEnded.com. 'Star Wars' fans may remember another recent viral video from them, "How Return Of The Jedi Should Have Ended."
